The University of Hawaii at Manoa, Office of Public Health studies (OPHS) (http://manoa.hawaii.edu/publichealth) is a vibrant and growing department, with 20 full-time faculty members. There is active collaboration with many faculty members in other departments and centers of the University. OPHS has multiple externally funded research projects involving various aspects of public health including health behavior and infectious diseases. We are looking for a faculty member with expertise in applied biostatistics or related field to complement our existing faculty and enhance our research. Because we are moving to offer online degrees, willingness to teach through distance education is essential.
Duties: The successful candidate is expected to teach online and in-person classes in biostatistics, including an introductory biostatistics class to undergraduates and introductory and advanced biostatistics classes to public health graduate students and other health professionals. The appointee would also conduct research in biostatistics or to develop a research program in an area related to biostatistics. The appointee will be a core faculty member within OPHS and will be expected to serve as an academic advisor to public health students, serve on department and university committees and render service to the professional or lay community as relevant to the individual’s academic specialty. Perform other related tasks as assigned.

Minimum qualifications: Doctoral degree in biostatistics/statistics or related field from a college or university of recognized standing. Demonstrated ability and passion for teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Willingness to teach online classes. Ability to conduct research, publish papers in peer-reviewed journals, and engage in collaborative research with others. Willingness to provide university and professional service. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Desirable qualifications: Established record of effective teaching of biostatistics to both undergraduate and graduate students through classroom and distance education modalities. Demonstrated ability to develop new courses and programs. Experience in supervising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. Established record of research and publication in biostatistics. Demonstrated experience in application of biostatistics or statistics to epidemiology, health promotion programs, or other public health-related areas. Experience working in multi-cultural settings.
