Department of Statistics

Assistant Professor in Statistics

Salaries will be on the appropriate salary scale and will be commensurate with experience, taking into account pay equity within the Department.

The salary scale starts at £55,974 per annum (pay award pending) and the salary scale can be found on the LSE website.

We are looking to fill two roles at Assistant Professor level. Applications for these new posts are invited from outstanding candidates in the field of statistics and probability. Successful candidates will join an established and successful department and contribute to its research and teaching in probability, finance and insurance. The posts are tenable from 1st September 2021.

  • You will have expertise and research interests in applications of probability to finance and insurance, preferably with a focus on their computational and empirical aspects.
  • You will have an established track record or trajectory of research at a level of international excellence and proven ability, as evidenced by existing publications, or potential to publish in top journals.
  • You will also have a clear, well developed and viable strategy for future outstanding research that has the potential to result in world-leading publications.
  • You must have a completed (or nearly completed) PhD in statistics, mathematics or other related area by the post start date.
  • You will maintain an active research programme and contribute to the general work of the Department, including teaching courses in statistics, probability, actuarial science, finance and insurance at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.

We welcome applications from candidates who are keen to collaborate with colleagues with complementary research interests both from within the Department and from other departments in the School. You will maintain an active research programme and contribute to the general work of the department, including teaching of a range of courses on the BSc Actuarial Science and MSc Quantitative Methods in Risk Management programmes, both run by the Department of Statistics.
