The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Florida Atlantic University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level in the area of algebra, starting in August 2025. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue research that complements current expertise in the department, which includes algebraic geometry, commutative ring theory, group theory, and representation theory. Ideally the successful candidate will broaden the scope of mathematical research in algebra, forming collaborations within the department as well as conducting interdisciplinary research.

Responsibilities for this position will be teaching, scholarly research, and professional service. The successful candidate will show a strong track record in research, effective, innovative teaching, and experience in directing graduate-level research. They will also be expected to participate in interdisciplinary programs and apply for external research funding.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at FAU offers a full range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs in mathematics. The department has more than forty full-time faculty members, approximately three-fifths in tenure-earning positions, and approximately 65 graduate students.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a Ph.D. in Mathematics or a closely related field. Candidates in all areas of algebra will be considered.

Transcripts:
The selected candidate for this position is required to submit an official transcript sent directly from the institution for the Provost’s credential file prior to the first day of employment. Similarly, for degrees from outside the United States, the evaluation by an organization belonging to the National Association of Credential Evaluation (NACES), with an indication of the documents the evaluation was prepared from (official transcripts, diplomas, dissertation abstracts) is required for the Provost’s credential file prior to the first day of employment. Transcripts must be issued to Florida Atlantic University, not to the individual applicant.
