The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Montana State University (MSU) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Statistics, to begin August 2020. We seek candidates who are broadly trained in statistical theory, methods, and data analysis, and who have a commitment to excellence in teaching. We are interested in candidates with research in any area of applied Statistics including, but not limited to, Biostatistics, Environmental and Ecological Statistics, Psychometrics, Social Science Statistics, Statistical Computing, or Stochastic Processes.

Duties include research, teaching, and service.

  • A commitment to excellence in teaching and an active research program are essential. We are particularly interested in candidates with research in Biostatistics, Environmental and Ecological Statistics, Psychometrics, Social Science Statistics, Statistical Computing, or Stochastic Processes. However, strong candidates from any specialty area in Statistics are encouraged to apply.
  • Instructional responsibilities include teaching lower division, upper division, and graduate courses in Statistics as well as advising undergraduate and graduate students. Responsibilities may also include supervising lower division Statistics courses.
  • Service includes department, college, and university committee work, consulting with university scientists, and participation in local and national professional organizations.

For more information, see http://www.math.montana.edu/eq... a tenure-track faculty member, a successful applicant must be able to balance the demands of teaching and advising students, conducting a research program that results in publication in high-quality venues, and seeking external funding for research and projects. The candidate will also serve on master’s and doctoral committees and participate in department and university service activities.

Required qualifications:

  1. Ph.D. in Statistics, Biostatistics, or equivalent.
  2. Broad training in statistical theory, methods, and data analysis.
  3. Evidence of research potential in Statistics.
  4. Evidence of effectiveness in teaching, including the potential to advise graduate and undergraduate research.

Preferred qualifications:

  1. Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching.
  2. Demonstrated ability to maintain a research program and advise graduate students.
  3. Broad experience in using statistical inference.
  4. Interest and experience in collaborating with researchers in other scientific disciplines.
  5. Interest and experience in curriculum development of undergraduate and graduate courses in Statistics.
  6. Research program in Biostatistics, Environmental and Ecological Statistics, Psychometrics, Social Science Statistics, Statistical Computing, or Stochastic Processes.
  7. Potential for and interest in working with and engaging diverse students and colleagues within and outside the Department of Mathematical Sciences.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be an independent researcher with a strong commitment to quality teaching and will contribute to the Department’s mission of providing outstanding teaching, research, and service in Statistics to the local, national, and international communities.
  • Have an appreciation of diverse constituencies and add to the department’s commitment to diversity.
  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills, effective interpersonal skills, and will have the ability to collaborate productively with students and faculty at Montana State University.
