The National Dental Research Institute Singapore (NDRIS), the research division of the National Dental Centre Singapore (NDCS), seeks an exceptional biostatistician with experience in epidemiology or public health research. NDRIS aims to be a leading institute for oral health research globally, renowned for translating research into practice to improve oral health and general health.

The successful candidate is expected to provide biostatistical consultation to clinicians and researchers, analyse archival data such as age, gender, dental prognosis, treatment and outcome, read current literature, attend meetings or conferences, and talk with colleagues to keep abreast of methodological or conceptual developments in fields such as biostatistics, epidemiology and health care services. NDCS’ strategic interests are to develop a research platform to inform the oral health status of Singaporeans, its linkage to general health and the impact of preventive and interventional programmes that will potentially influence health policies. NDCS has a special interest to strengthen and establish relationships with other centres in order to perform linkage of oral and general health longitudinal data. As such, the candidate will be required to analyse clinical or survey data using statistical approaches such as longitudinal analysis, mixed effect modelling, logistic regression analyses and model building.

The candidate is expected to calculate sample size requirements for clinical studies, determine project plans, timelines or technical objectives for statistical aspects of biological research studies, and prepare statistical data for inclusion in reports to clinicians, researchers, data monitoring committees and regulatory agencies. He/she will write detailed analysis plans, descriptions of analyses and findings for research protocols or reports. In addition, the candidate is expected to review clinical or other medical research protocols and recommend appropriate statistical analyses.

Job Requirements

  • Master/Doctoral qualifications in Statistics, Epidemiology or Public Health
  • Minimum 5-year experience as a statistician in medical research
  • Excellent working knowledge of STATA or SAS software
  • In-depth understanding of probability and statistics theory
  • Applied knowledge of advanced statistical models, such as sample size calculation and selection for complex studies, multi-level modelling, design, implementation and analyses of randomised clinical trials, design and implementation of new data collection methods, longitudinal data analyses, and data linkage
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a team environment, and contribute to a motivated work environment will be an advantage
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Strong focus on quality and timely delivery of work
