Job Summary

The Center for Biostatistics in AIDS Research (CBAR), an organization within the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, is responsible for the design, monitoring and statistical analysis of clinical trials and observational studies for several major national and international NIH-funded clinical research networks. CBAR employs over 100 statisticians and epidemiologists including Harvard faculty, research scientists, and staff. Investigators within CBAR have provided statistical leadership and support for clinical research networks for thirty-five years. Currently, this includes infectious disease networks such as: the Advancing Clinical Therapeutics Globally for HIV/AIDS and Other Infections (formerly known as AIDS Clinical Trials Network (ACTG), the International Maternal Pediatric Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trials Network (IMPAACT), and the Pediatric HIV/AIDS Cohort Study (PHACS). Results from studies have helped to establish the paradigm for the treatment and prevention of HIV and other infectious diseases and contributed to international treatment and prevention guidelines.

CBAR has a hybrid work environment which includes a combination of on-campus/in-person work and remote work.

Position Description

The Health Outcomes in Pregnancy and Exposure to HIV/ARVs study (HOPE) is actively recruiting a Master’s level Biostatistician or Epidemiologist. The HOPE cohort study will enroll and follow ~1630 young women living with HIV at US clinical sites including Puerto Rico, leveraging the Pediatric HIV/AIDS Cohort Study (PHACS) network to explore multilevel determinants influencing the health of women living with HIV. PHACS is a NIH-funded network of observational cohort studies established in 2005 to address two critical pediatric HIV research questions: the long-term safety of fetal and infant exposure to prophylactic antiretroviral (ART) chemotherapy, and the effects of perinatally acquired HIV infection and ART treatment on the health of adolescents and young adults. The PHACS network conducts multiple US-based longitudinal studies to evaluate the health of pregnant people with HIV and their children, including young adults born to women with HIV. Additional details about the HOPE study is available at https://phacsstudy.org/Our-Res... . Information about the PHACS network and its studies are available at https://phacsstudy.org/ .

The position, which is suitable for a new graduate with a Master's degree in biostatistics, epidemiology or a related field with experience and/or interest in analyzing data from observational studies, will collaborate with a multi-site multidisciplinary team of medical researchers, senior statisticians and epidemiologists, social scientists, and community advisory board members on new research initiatives within HOPE. Responsibilities include providing input on study design, with opportunities to apply novel causal inference approaches to research questions using longitudinal observational data, drafting analysis plans for study concepts, forms and questionnaire design and review, statistical programming, data analysis, report writing and co-authorship of peer-reviewed manuscripts under the mentorship and supervision of senior staff. This position will serve on internal CBAR committees.

The position is located in the Center for Biostatistics in AIDS Research (CBAR) within the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health. Since 1989, CBAR and the Harvard T.H. Funding for this position is likely to be available past the date indicated.
