What will you be doing?

The department you will be joining is looking to influence real change for the organisation based on the analytics and insights produced by yourself and the rest of the unit. As such you will be part of a team which directly influences how the communities in Scotland are policed in an effort to improve quality of service and responsiveness by helping to reduce crime, identify and help protect the most vulnerable people in society at an early stage.

You will lead the development of advanced analytics algorithms exploiting our rich data sets in order to help Police Scotland to understand demand, what factors drive that demand and what the likely projected outcomes of change are.

You will engage with internal and external stakeholders to understand priorities and objectives and help to deliver these through the use of advanced analytical techniques.

You will identify the analytical techniques and methods to develop solutions and measure success / value. You will also be responsible for the development of the testing environment to evidence the work being undertaken.

What skills do we expect you to bring?

A degree or equivalent qualification in a statistics or computer science/mathematics discipline accompanied by experience in a statistical or computer science environment. Where no formal qualifications exist a considerable track record of success within a statistical or computer science environment.

Expertise in building and deploying multiple advanced analytical areas such as Clustering, Forecasting and Predictive Modelling

Ability and understanding to deploy applications using deep learning techniques combining structured and unstructured data

It is essential that you will be able to quickly understand organisational objectives, identify problems and deploy analytical techniques to overcome these.

The Demand and Productivity Unit (DPU) has been established to support delivery of Police Scotland’s 10 year strategy and to enable transformation programmes and projects in realising their capabilities and delivering successful outcomes.

This will be a pioneering role within Scottish Policing and you will be expected to work closely with Police Scotland senior management, external partners - including the Scottish Institute for Policing Research, Scottish Police Authority (SPA) and Her Majesty’s Inspectorate for Constabulary in Scotland – as well as internal stakeholders to develop an organisational strategy for data science incorporating Big Data.

The successful applicant will provide expert input and participate in executive level strategic decision making, supplying expert advice and information to colleagues and partners in relation to data science.

This is a full time permanent post and may require Management Vetting.

You will work 35 hours per week working Monday – Friday 0900 – 1700 hours.
