Think critically. Think collaboratively. Think differently.

At Dstl, our expertise keeps the UK safe. We work closely with the Ministry of Defence and the wider government to provide cutting-edge science and technology solutions. As a Data Scientist, you’ll identify and accelerate the delivery of innovative concepts for the benefit of the nation.

You’ll join our Exploration Division, where your critical thinking will shape our operational decision making. You’ll have considerable experience generating insights through data science techniques. As a talented problem-solver, you’ll drive forward new ways of working. Whether you’re designing and implementing analytical tools, or participating in the latest research – you’ll identify where data science can add new value.

We think differently, and so will you. You’ll approach complex problems from a new angle, and partner with industry and academia to keep projects on track. And you’ll ensure these projects have the benefit of internal expertise, communicating your thinking to technical, and non-technical, audiences. You could be speaking to government departments or senior officials, so you’ll be able to communicate effectively.

Our data scientists work as a community; it’s what makes us so effective. You’ll connect with staff at all levels, and enjoy working collaboratively. In doing so, you’ll drive forward the adoption of new techniques by others. Plus, you’ll have leadership experience, and inspire those around you to deliver high impact science and technology.

To join, you’ll have a degree or demonstrable experience in a related STEM subject. You’ll be proficient using programmes including Python, R and other visualisation software. Importantly, you’ll be skilled in statistics, text analytics, machine learning and/or data engineering. In return for your experience, you’ll benefit from an attractive work-life balance and plentiful career development opportunities.

If you have a genuine passion for data science, and you’re committed to protecting the UK and it’s interests - we want to hear from you.
