The Oxford University Big Data Institute (BDI) is a new interdisciplinary research centre aiming to develop, evaluate and deploy efficient methods for acquiring and analysing biomedical data at scale and for exploiting the opportunities arising from such studies. The Nuffield Department of Population Health (NDPH), a key partner in the BDI, contains world-renowned population health research groups and is an excellent environment for multi-disciplinary teaching and research.

We are seeking a motivated and well-organised Epidemiologist / Health data scientist. You will work with statisticians and computer scientists to associate novel phenotypes, derived from wearable sensor time-series data, with clinical outcomes. Specifically, we are looking for the post holder to conduct risk prediction research to associate wearable sensors measurements with incident cardiovascular disease outcomes. It is expected that the methods developed will have wider applicability within the fields of reproducible machine learning, time-series analysis, health data science, and cardiovascular medicine.

You will have or be close (3 months) to completion of a DPhil/ PhD in epidemiology, public health or a closely related field, or equivalent experience. You will also have an excellent understanding of common statistical methods, experience of analysing large datasets, proficiency in statistical software (such as R Stata or SAS), team-working and communication skills and ability to take responsibility for research projects.

The position is full time (part time considered) and fixed term until 30th September 2021.

Informal enquiries should be addressed to Associate Professor and Research Group Leader Aiden Doherty (aiden.doherty@ndph.ox.ac.uk).

The closing date for applications is noon on Thursday 29th October 2020.
