Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join the Centre for Biomedicine, Self and Society within the usher Institute at the University of Edinburgh, to work on a Wellcome Trust Seed Award project on AI and Health.

The award is entitled “AI and Health: Exploring affect and relationality across three sites of intelligence and care”, and the successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of the research project, such as its design, data collection, analysis, and publication. You will be able to contribute to new research initiatives arising from the award, develop and implement associated public engagement and join in Centre related activities. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a multidisciplinary network of collaborators to pursue research on the social and ethical dimensions of artificial intelligence in health.

We are seeking applicants with a PhD in a relevant social sciences or humanities subject (e.g. medical / health sociology, STS, bioethics, medical law) and experience with qualitative social science research methods, research related to AI and/or health care, academic publication and public engagement.

This is a fixed term contract for a period of 12 months, Full-time (35 hours per week) and is available from April 2019.

The Centre for Biomedicine, Self and Society is a diverse, cross-College interdisciplinary research environment that brings together researchers from the Usher Institute; the Mason Institute for Medicine, Life Sciences and Law; and the School of Social and Political Sciences. Our team works closely to develop and apply ethics, humanities and social science approaches to health and biomedicine.
