The post
The Faculty wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to participate in a cardio-metabolic and cardio-oncology clinical epidemiology and data science programmes, led by Professor Umesh Kadam. The Fellow will join the department of Exeter Collaboration for Academic Primary Care (APEx), which is a member of the NIHR School for Primary Care Research. University of Exeter is also a member of the NIHR School for Public Health Research and the Alan Turing Institute. This University funded post is available immediately for a period of three years.
The successful applicant will innovate, develop and carry out independent research, contributing as a team member to the population-based cardio-metabolic and cardio-oncology epidemiology and informatics programme. Your role will involve the development and application of statistical and machine learning methods as well as guidance on different ways in which observational evidence can be used in risk estimations in the general population with cardio-metabolic disease and cancer. This post will be working externally with the Virtual Card-Oncology Research Institute (VICORI) which is a national network of collaborators, with funding from the British Heart Foundation.
The post will require high-level expertise in machine-learning/biostatistics/medical statistics/epidemiology and observational patient level data, modelling and application of novel statistical methods to measurement of healthcare outcomes.
About you
The successful applicant will be able to develop research objectives, projects and proposals; identify sources of research funding and contribute to the process of securing funds and make presentations at conferences and other events.
Applicants will possess a relevant PhD or equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study. The successful applicant will be a nationally recognised authority in Statistics/Data Science and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies.
The successful applicant will also be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required. Applicants will be able demonstrate evidence of research productivity (including high-quality research publications, presentations); involvement in innovative, high-level medical research; applying statistical modelling techniques to patient level data; experience of a range of statistical software and using simulation-based methods.
