The Amgen Global Biostatistical Sciences team are looking for an experienced Principal Statistician to provide statistical leadership of clinical programs and clinical studies across our portfolio of new and existing medicines.

Your Team:

The Global Biostatistical Sciences team is based in the US, UK, Japan and China and is part of the Center for Design and Analysis which encompasses experts in Design and Innovation, Biostatistics, and Data Sciences. We all work together to meet the demands of an Industry leading, fast paced, high throughput organization with commitment to innovation and quality.

Your role overview:

You will collaborate with Disease Area Leads and Global Statistical Leads to execute key projects, deliverables and operational tasks relating to biostatistical strategy, technical expertise and study reporting. As the Principal Statistician, you will influence evidence generation strategies and study design, identifying opportunities for innovative methodology, whilst promoting statistical approaches both internally and externally ensuring strict adherence to all Amgen’s Policies, SOPs and other controlled documents.

Your responsibilities:

You will contribute to developing evidence generation strategies and product strategy plans

You will understand, promote and communicate innovative statistical methodologies, trial design, data analysis to clinical and other cross-functional experts

You will provide statistical contributions, statistical review and quality control of Key Design Elements (KDE) protocols, randomization specifications, Statistical Analysis Plans (SAPs), Table, Listing and Figure (TLF) shells, Submission Data File (SDF) specifications, other key-study related documentation, TFL outputs, summaries of results, Clinical Study Reports (CSRs), clinical publications, and other communications involving disseminating results

  • You will complete statistical analysis of individual studies/projects
  • You will work in a team of statisticians, including members from external suppliers
  • You will publish research in scientific journals and books, and giving presentations on statistical methodology in the biopharmaceutical setting at external scientific meetings (biopharmaceutical industry and academic meetings)
  • You will stay abreast of latest developments in the field of statistics in drug development and contribute to scientific advances in the field
  • You will provide statistical consultancy, training and advice within Global Biostatistical Sciences and within Amgen
  • You are familiar with statistical policy and strategy at Amgen and assisting in the development and review of Amgen Policies, SOPs and other controlled documents
  • You will assist with study and systems audits conducted by Amgen and external bodies
  • You will serve as a team member of change / process improvement initiatives

Qualifications and required experience:

  • Master’s degree educated with Statistics / Biostatistics or subject with high statistical content
  • Extensive post graduate statistical experience in the pharmaceutical industry or medical research (slightly less if Doctorate)
  • Proven experience and skills needed:
  • Statistical leadership and contribution to regulatory or reimbursement submissions
  • Designing, analysing and reporting clinical studies including authoring protocols, SAPs, CSRs or manuscripts
  • Experience working effectively in a globally dispersed team environment with cross-cultural partners
  • Ability to manage self, lead and manage others in the successful and timely completion of all statistical activities for multiple studies across one or more products
  • Ability to effectively perform complex statistical analyse and related tasks
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Location: Uxbridge or Cambridge UK
