Our department

Mathematics & Statistics has a long and distinguished record of high-quality research. We are seeking excellent candidates to join our internationally recognised research groups in:

  • Health Statistics
  • Numerical Analysis
  • Stochastic Analysis

Our Health Statistics research group contributes to a broad range of vitally important issues including minimising the impact of infectious diseases and emerging zoonotic diseases through vaccination strategies, understanding the transmission and intervention strategies for plant health, and modelling the risks to society from infections from animals entering the food chain. One distinctive aspect of this group is our strong and long-standing strategic links with external public health agencies.

Our internationally leading Numerical Analysis research group is one of the largest and most highly regarded numerical analysis groups in the UK, well known in particular for organising the long running international Biennial Conference in Numerical Analysis. The group’s key research focus is on the construction and rigorous analysis of computational methods for algebraic and differential equations arising in a wide variety of application areas.

Our Stochastic Analysis group has an internationally recognised research capability in the mathematical modelling of stochastic systems. The group specialises in the rigorous mathematical treatment of stochastic differential equations and time series analysis, and has made outstanding contributions to the numerical analysis of highly nonlinear stochastic differential equations.

The opportunity

We would love to hear from you if you have an internationally recognised research portfolio in this area, are publishing in leading international journals, are actively pursuing funding whilst building impactful collaborative links with industrial and business partners and if you have a passion for leading on teaching and learning. In keeping with our commitment to equality and diversity, we encourage applications from all sections of the community, particularly those who can support our Athena SWAN activity, which inspires the advancement and representation of women in higher education.

You’ll be rewarded with:

  • A generous remuneration package, with notable additional financial and non-financial benefits including pension and (where appropriate) a contribution towards relocation costs;
  • Excellent start-up support; and
  • Regular career review, with the opportunity to receive additional remuneration in recognition of outstanding contribution.
