An opportunity is available for a statistician to work with Professor James Wason in Newcastle University’s Biostatistics Research Group. This position will involve working on a mix of methodological research related to precision medicine clinical trials and to be the statistician for a range of newly funded clinical trials utilising innovative trial designs.

The Biostatistics Research Group is part of the Institute of Health and Society. The Institute hosts several groups of methodologists, along with a National Institute for Health Research Design Service, and is linked to a UKCRC Registered Clinical Trials Unit. The Biostatistics group currently comprises of 17 statisticians working on a range of applied and methodological projects. Further details are given here.

You will be a suitably qualified statistician (with either a PhD, or a postgraduate qualification with a track record of published research and evidence of being able to conduct statistical methodology research) interested in working on novel statistical methodology and applying it in real trials. The current methodology research interests of the group are adaptive trial designs, biomarker-guided trials, analysis of composite endpoints and stepped-wedge/cluster-randomised clinical trials. There will be opportunities to be involved in the supervision of PhD students and get involved in designing future clinical trials.
