The appointment will be on UCL Grade 7 or 8.
The salary range will be Grade 7 £37,873 - £45,720 per annum or Grade 8 £46,979 - £55,370 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated Medical Statistician to join the Biostatistics Group, UCL Department of Statistical Science and the UCL PRIMENT CTU.
One main research project in the first year is with CHIMERA (Collaborative Healthcare Innovation through Mathematics, Engineering and AI), a multidisciplinary, inter-departmental UCL centre, analysing intensive care data to provide novel ideas and adopt advanced methods to improve the care of critically ill patients. The post holder will also spend 20% of their time giving statistical advice on study design through The Research Design Service (RDS) London, which is closed linked with PRIMENT and offers advice and creative input on developing grant and fellowship applications. There will be opportunity to collaborate on research grant applications. Health Research in UCL, UCLH and the Royal Free Hospital provides an exciting and dynamic environment and an excellent opportunity for the right applicant to develop a career as a Medical Statistician. In addition, they will have opportunity to develop their own methodological research portfolio and expertise.
The post holder will be accountable to Professor Rumana Omar (Head, Biostatistics Group) and Professor Greta Rait (Director of PRIMENT CTU).
The post is available immediately and will be funded for two years in the first instance.
Candidates should possess a PhD in Statistics/ Medical Statistics. It is desirable or essential (depending on the Grade) that the successful candidate has experience of working as a statistician in a health research environment, has had previous involvement in clinical trials and/ or observational studies in health research and has strong organisational and communication skills. If a PhD has not yet been granted, the final accepted version of the thesis must have been submitted to the degree-awarding university by the start date.
Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Research Assistant Grade 6B (£33,184 - £34,976 per annum including London Allowance) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis. Appointment at grade 8 as Senior Research Fellow is made for candidates meeting the criteria as specified on the job description.
