Following a significant increase in the performance of Hertfordshire Business School in the recent Research Excellence Framework, an opportunity has arisen to create several new Research Fellow/Senior Research Fellow posts to assist with the further development of the research culture and environment in the School. In REF2021 we were ranked 12th in the Business and Management Unit of Assessment for Impact and prior to that we were ranked first in the UK for Postgraduate Research Supervision in 2021 in the national survey – PRES.
Main duties and responsibilities
We wish to appoint a Research Fellow/Senior Research Fellow with healthcare modelling, management, and policy design skills, who will develop a highly impactful applied collaborative healthcare project. You will have a senior role within the simulation modelling team whose primary focus will be the development of simulation models to analyse strategic and operational problems in the healthcare sector and assess the impact of changes and interventions to address these problems.
You will need to undertake research within the scope of the project, establishing a programme of research activity working collaboratively with colleagues at UH and partner organisations as appropriate and disseminate the outcomes of the project in publications, at conferences and through other appropriate media.
Skills and experience required
You will have a PhD in Operational Research, Business Analytics, Data Science or a related field, and the ability to manage quantitative data, as well as advanced computing skills. Proven experience in the development of systems dynamics (e.g., Stella) and/or discrete event simulation (e.g., Simul8) is required. You must also be able to use a variety of simulation and statistical packages (e.g., SPSS) to design and develop necessary models. You must be organised, conscientious and able to work both independently and within a research team.
Qualifications required
An undergraduate honours degree at a minimum 2:2 (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline
