Leicester, London or Cardiff

Learning and Work Institute is an independent research and development organisation dedicated to promoting lifelong learning, full employment and inclusion.

We are delighted that this year we will be launching a new, high-profile What Works Team, that will bring together, share and support the use of evidence-based insights on ‘what works’ in employment and skills.  We have an exciting opportunity for a new Senior Analyst to join the team.  You will lead, manage and deliver a programme of research and analysis, working collaboratively with colleagues in L&W and with a range of external partners.

The new team will have four key objectives, to:

  • Bring together the evidence base on what works in employment, skills and learning support and make this accessible for those involved in the design, commissioning and delivery of services
  • Disseminate findings to those audiences in ways that are targeted, meaningful and useful for those audiences
  • Support their practical application – using networks (established and new), training and support, events and seminars, and bespoke consultancy and support
  • Over the next three years, make the team financially self-sufficient – through its research and support programme, partnerships, products and services, training and events

The Unit will be UK-wide and will encompass ‘what works’ in adult learning, post-16 education and skills (excluding higher education) and employment support for those in and out of work.  It will be evidence based but pragmatic in its approach – focusing on delivering useful, timely and expert insight and support to commissioners in local and central government, those delivering services and those making spending and policy decisions.  Its work programme will include thematic reviews of what works; development of resources and toolkits; new analysis of labour market and skills data; and delivery of masterclasses, seminars and knowledge-sharing events.

As Senior Analyst, you will bring particular expertise in economics, statistics or quantitative research methods; an understanding of the policy and delivery landscape for learning, skills and employment; a strong track record of leading and managing projects, including managing resources, staff and clients; and a passion for helping others to do what works.

In return, you’ll have the chance to shape, lead and deliver a unique and exciting programme of work and to be part of a dynamic and committed team.
