Senior Applied Statistician

We are looking to expand our growing team with a talented and experienced applied statistician who will play a pivotal role in driving efficiency and effectiveness through the analysis of engineering platform datasets and the development of statistical models which will enable high quality decision-making.

As a member of the Operational Research & Decision Analytics team, you will be working on projects in a multi functional team that makes use of large data sets and sophisticated techniques to deliver high quality analytic solutions that will be used by the entire business.

The role will involve both analysis of historical data and the generation of predictive models to inform our decisions in the future. You will have the opportunity to have a significant and tangible impact on decision-making and planning within the business. Your work will impact the effectiveness of the business unit based on your recommendation to internal teams (from engineering, to operations to management) that are dependent on the insights you’ll produce.

Where your expertise is needed

  • Lead the team’s statistical modelling initiatives, contributing to operational models that address optimizations for demand prediction and scheduling problems for reducing waste and demand predictions
  • Perform statistical analyses on historical data, explore different models and present trade-offs of different solutions; build sophisticated algorithms and models for pricing, forecasting and recommendation systems.
  • Drive problem definitions by working closely with product owners and the business to understand the requirements, define critical metrics and set result expectations
  • Apply research, innovation and technology through rapid prototyping to facilitate the deployment of highly scalable and robust solutions.

Job Requirements

What we’re looking for

  • Phd/MSc in a highly quantitative field, together with a consistent track record in research and innovation in the field of statistical modelling and analytics
  • Proven experience in the latest technologies to design and implement extremely effective complex (multi-parameter) models from scratch and deploy a highly scalable service
  • Hands-on experience in doing sophisticated regression, discriminant analysis, Monte Carlo methods and working with time series analysis data
  • Experience in Bayesian analysis and providing accurate analysis of uncertainties in your results
  • Wide experience of analysis and modelling statistical frameworks (e.g. Prinicipal Component Analysis, Nonlinear Models, Tree-based methods, supervised/unsupervised learning)
  • Strong knowledge of resampling methods (bootstrapping and cross validation), dimension reduction
  • Experience of working with at least one statistical package (e.g., R, SPSS, SAS, SciPy) and a willingness to learn new technologies
  • Ability to work as a team in a dynamic multidisciplinary environment,

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Proficiency in gathering, cleansing, processing, transforming and analysing data of variable levels of quality in a methodical fashion.
  • Experience of writing well documented, maintainable software in Python.
  • Familiarity with using SQL to extract information from RDBMSs.
  • Familiar with HPC or GPU computing (CUDA, OpenCL, OpenACC)
