How will you make an impact?

The position is based in the Singapore R&D Center and is part of the extended Molecular Biology and Assay Development team within the wider Life Science Solutions Group and Pharma Analytics business. The mission of this business unit is to develop best in class products and services to assure quality of the next-generation drugs through our customers pipeline.

The successful candidate will join a team of talented engineers and scientists, passionate about bringing actionable insights to pharma analytics and the wider pharma and healthcare sectors. They will work collaboratively in a matrix environment to develop assays for the detection of contaminating or pathogenic microbes using real-time PCR, CE sequencing and later, next-generation sequencing technologies.

She/he will analyze microbial genomes, including bacterial, fungal, viral, and protozoan and propose strategies for the development of precise, accurate and robust detection of these organisms under unique workflows designed for the pharmaceutical sector. This individual will work with an interdisciplinary team of scientists, engineers and business leaders to develop an exciting pipeline of products to meet our mission for quality – right the first time with the customer in mind.

We are seeking individuals with broad expertise in bioinformatics and an understanding of the design pipeline for molecular assays. If you are a motivated and innovative bioinformatics scientist seeking to advance your career in these fields, we would like to hear from you.

Office hours: Mon-Fri, 8am-515pm

Location: Marsiling, Singapore (5-10 mins walk from Woodlands MRT / bus interchange)

Reporting to: R&D Director / Manager, Molecular Biology

What will you do?

  • Your primary responsibility is supporting new product introductions (NPI), focusing on real-time PCR, capillary electrophoresis and next-generation assay design.
  • Additional responsibilities include providing support for on-market products and using innovative approaches for system improvement and troubleshooting.
  • Balance between providing customized data analysis to support bench scientists and improving core assay technologies.
  • Establish and maintain local databases for housing data and metadata related to the pharma analytics project pipeline
  • Utilize existing pipelines and tools to assay development to design new processes that align with the overall goals of the business
  • Provide design documentation in line with design compliance and lifecycle management of on-market products
  • Play a pivotal role in algorithm and tool development, translating new product requirements into prototype and production-level software, testing and integrating your code, and coordinating improvements.
  • You will remain up to date with the latest developments in genomics and biological informatics. You may engage with collaborators or users, and you may attend and present at scientific meetings as appropriate.

How will you get here?


MS degree with 3+ years of experience or PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, statistics, computer science, or biological sciences, preferably with application experience in a related area such as microbiology, oncology, inherited disease or human genetics.


  • Hands-on experience with public data sources such is required.
  • Experience with PCR primer design, sequence and motif analysis, and next-generation assay design and/or data management is particularly welcome.
  • Proven track record of scientific publications and scientific conference presentations is a strong plus.
  • Familiarity with product development and/or project management will make you a stronger candidate, along with knowledge of office productivity software such as Microsoft Office

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Solid knowledge of real-time PCR and next-generation sequencing analysis under the Linux environment, with good understanding of software engineering and data analysis principles.
  • Proficiencies in a scripting language (e.g. Python), a statistical package (e.g. R or MATLAB), and shell-scripting are required.
  • Computational pipeline development and database management, as well as solid background in genomics and statistics.
  • Effective communication skills, especially for presenting scientific results, working collaboratively in a team, and documenting work.
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary and geographically distributed team environment.
  • Ability to handle ambiguity and rapid change.
  • Strong drive for problem-solving and continuous improvement, with the willingness and courage to work through obstacles.
