At Boehringer Ingelheim, responsibility for methodological and operational aspects of statistics in clinical development programs and thereafter is shared by statisticians with different specializations. Within statistics, the focus areas are Translational Medicine and Clinical Pharmacology (TMCP), late phase development and regulatory submissions (both mainly located in Biberach), and medical affairs (mainly located in Ingelheim). For the current open position, we are looking for statisticians with experience in Phase 1-3 trials, ideally within the area of oncology.

This position is limited for 2 years.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • You act as a Trial Statistician to support clinical trials. In particular, support planning of trials, development of trial protocols, reporting and programming specifications in a Statistical Analysis Plan and statistical monitoring of trial conduct.
  • As a Statistician you collaborate with other functions in planning clinical trials and protocols conforming to company and regulatory agency guidelines.
  • In your new role you support Project Statisticians of high profile international projects in their responsibilities, especially in their statistical responsibilities in the planning and preparation of regulatory submissions and contribute to efforts on cross-trial planning and harmonization.
  • You analyze data from Phase 1 to 3 trials incl. responsibility for program validation. You also perform exploratory analyses in collaboration with the Project Statistician.
  • Application of established and innovative statistical methodology in clinical trials and projects, including design of innovative studies, development of quantitative milestone criteria (e.g. Go/No Go criteria) and statistical-methodological input into alternative project development scenarios.
  • Furthermore you collaborate with other statisticians as well as trial and project team members from various disciplines and interact with regulatory authorities and other external parties on statistical topics.

Requirements

  • Master and/or Doctoral degree in quantitative Sciences like Statistics or Mathematics
  • Experience working as a trial statistician in clinical development, preferably within the pharmaceutical industry is of advantage
  • Good knowledge of contemporary statistical methodology, including adaptive designs, Bayesian methodology, causal inference. Special knowledge of trial simulation and data visualization would be an advantage
  • Experience with clinical trials in oncology is a plus
  • Hands-on experience in applying statistical software solutions, in particular knowledge in at least SAS and R
  • Attention to detail with a strong quality orientation
  • Ability to manage tasks ensuring they are completed correctly and on time
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
