We are looking to expand our team of Statisticians based in our London office. The team works in close collaboration with the Surveys, Data and Analysis department, which specialises in delivering high quality social surveys such as the Health Survey for England, the National Travel Survey, the British Social Attitudes Survey and many others.

NatCen statisticians play an important role in all surveys undertaken by NatCen. We are responsible for designing and drawing survey samples, generating weights and developing new methodology related to survey design and analysis. We act as internal consultants, advising researchers and contributing to research proposals and technical reports. We also get involved in secondary analysis of survey data, utilising the many rich sources of data generated by NatCen.

As a Survey Statistician, you will work across a range of cross-sectional and longitudinal surveys. Once embedded in the team you will be advising researchers on survey methods and will play a role in winning new work by contributing to research proposals. You will get the opportunity to carry out secondary analysis, helping to answer important research questions with relevance to policy making and society. In addition, there will be opportunities to get involved in statistical training of researchers from NatCen and other organisations.

You will need an excellent academic background, including a degree with a substantial statistical component and familiarity with statistical software such as SPSS, STATA or R. Experience of applying statistical methods to surveys in social/market research or academia would be a distinct advantage but is not necessary for an entry-level position. A good standard of written English is essential.

In return there is a good salary on offer in a friendly and personable team where your achievements will be recognised. There will be ample opportunity to progress your career with support from colleagues, external courses and internal training.

The post will be at one of Researcher, Senior Researcher or Research Director level, depending on experience.
