About Beauclair 

Beauclair is a data company that uses Big Data for the benefit of local communities. 

Drawing on a dataset of billions of transactions, we have created a range of trusted and innovative products for Local Authorities, Business Improvement Districts and similar organisations to help them to monitor the economic health of their retail districts and to deliver usable insights for decision-makers. As well as a subscription service, we undertake special client commissioned projects. We have ambitious goals of scaling up to be able to offer a highly cost-effective, user-focused data service for high streets across the country. 

About the role 

We are seeking a Data Analyst to: 1) support the delivery and presentation of client data, 2) to undertake product development, and 3) to generate novel insights from our data. 

The role is being offered for between 60%-100% FTE (equivalent to 3-5 days per week).  

Beauclair is open to hiring candidates located across the UK and the role can be performed on a mostly remote basis or at an office location. Alternatively, the Data Analyst can elect to work at an appropriate coworking office space. If the role is filled remotely, there will be the expectation of in-person attendance at meetings in London or events around the UK for an agreed minimum number of days (~20) per year.

You will be supported by the rest of the Beauclair team: Chief Data Officer (line manager), marketing and sales manager, client relations manager and our director. 

As the business grows there is the potential for you to make a strong impact in ensuring that local communities across the UK can access the benefits of the Big Data revolution. 

Role description                 

  • Supporting the monthly delivery of data to our clients
  • Supporting our Chief Data Officer to:
  • document and implement quality control, continuous improvement and other standard operating procedures
  • ensure that analysis follows best practice for validity, replicability, etc.
  • liaise with data providers to ensure that the data meets client expectations
  • Managing consulting and research projects, including: working with clients to develop project scopes, specify queries, perform data analysis and write reports the maintenance and upgrading of the tools we use to present our data to clients, e.g. data pipelines and data dashboards
  • Benchmarking Beauclair’s data against other retail data, e.g. ONS, BRC
  • Product development, including:
  • Enhancements to the current core subscription product to ensure that it continues to deliver market-leading levels of clarity, consistency and insight
  • Upgrading client dashboard to enhance levels of insight while retaining ease of use for a non-technical audience
  • Creation of new national retail benchmarks based on geography and type of town and retail area
  • New stand-alone or subscription products
  • Assessment of new data sources and potential new markets
  • Providing support to client managers in preparation of client-specific insights in support of renewal and selling of additional services
  • Participating in online and in-person presentations to clients and prospects on Beauclair’s data 

Person description 

Required 
  • Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths) subject or quantitative social sciences discipline
  • Maths A-level or equivalent
  • Experience of coding in R and/or Python
  • Good presentation and communications skills
  • Already holds a right to work in the UK 

Preferred 

  • Graduate degree
  • Statistics to degree level
  • Experience of client and public presentations
  • Experience with dashboards and infographics, e.g. Shiny, Power BI, Tableau or equivalent
  • Knowledge of UK retail environment
  • Experience with larger-than-memory data
  • Experience with Python Polars or similar libraries
  • Experience of Git and version control 

Personal characteristics 

  • Willingness to take responsibility and accountability for setting and meeting ambitious targets
  • An understanding of working in a small team with flexibility on job description and willingness to ‘pitch in’ when required
  • Self-motivated, with an ability to solo work without being part of a large team.
  • Comfortable with public speaking and working with clients. 

Package 

  • £35-45k FTE (dependent on skills & experience) plus 3% pension contribution.
