You will sit at the centre of Tetra Tech’s Water Consultancy, providing statistical leadership across multiple clean‑water analysis and forecasting projects. Day‑to‑day, you will define and audit statistical approaches, advise analysts and modellers on non‑parametric and probabilistic methods, prepare and review client outputs, and ensure consistency with regulatory reporting. You will work within multidisciplinary teams on AMP8/AMP9 programmes, influencing modelling practice across project portfolios that inform investment and delivery decisions.
Your impact in this position
In the short term, you will improve rigour and consistency in modelling outputs and reporting. Over the medium term, you will embed preferred statistical workflows, mentor the analytics team and support clients in adopting best practices.
Core capabilities
- Statistical methodology - Deep knowledge of non‑parametric methods, lognormal and binomial distributions, robust outlier identification and confidence interval interpretation.
- Probabilistic & predictive modelling - Practical experience with probabilistic techniques, regression and machine‑learning approaches applied to time‑series and water‑industry data.
- Audit & assurance - Ability to audit statistical and modelling processes, validate code and model outputs, and maintain traceable reporting standards.
- Communication & mentoring - Translate complex statistical reasoning into clear guidance, prepare client‑facing reports and mentor analysts in appropriate method selection.
- Technical interoperability - Familiarity with Python, Excel macros and data workflows; aptitude for working with model code, data pipelines and regulatory reporting formats.
Qualifications and training
Expected: degree in statistics, mathematics, engineering, epidemiology, natural sciences or related discipline. Desirable: postgraduate qualification and membership, or working towards membership, of a relevant professional body.
Work patterns & locations
Hybrid role with regional UK locations; typical office attendance 2–3 days per week and regular client engagement. Flexible working is considered to support delivery and development.
