About The Role
The Senior Epidemiologist role within the Microbiological Diagnostic Unit Public Health Laboratory (MDU PHL) involves leading genomic and epidemiological analysis and reporting for infectious diseases surveillance and control. This position focuses on genomic and epidemiological surveillance of Carbapenemase-producing Organisms (CPOs), requiring collaboration with stakeholders, development of surveillance programs, and contribution to research and capacity building activities.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Perform, interpret, and report analysis of epidemiological, genomic, and other laboratory data
- Initiate and support projects focused on implementing improvements in existing public health and genomic surveillance programs, particularly implementation of new analysis methods
- Represent relevant surveillance programs within the Doherty Institute, and at state and national meetings, working groups and committees
- Build collaborations with key contacts in the Victorian Departments of Health, Local Public Health Units and within the Doherty Institute in relation to their scope of work
Who We Are Looking For
You will excel in this role with your strong communication and stakeholder management skills, complemented by effective presentation abilities and diplomacy. Your capacity to collaborate within multidisciplinary teams and engage with diverse stakeholders ensures successful outcomes in this role.
You will also have:
- A tertiary qualification in epidemiology, public health, pathogen genomics, or similar together with relevant epidemiological or public health experince
- Demonstrated experience in infectious disease epidemiology and/or public health surveillance
- Experience with, or interest and ability in, epidemiological or phylodynamic modelling approaches
- Considerable experience in analysis of epidemiological, genomic, and/or public health data, including knowledge of relevant analysis programs.
