As a Data Analyst, you will be empowered to support short and long term operational/strategic business activities; develop, enhance, and maintain business intelligence tools that will have an impact on business decisions. Careers with Optum offer flexible work arrangements and individuals who live and work in the Republic of Ireland will have the opportunity to split their monthly work hours between our Dublin and telecommuting from a home-based office in a hybrid work model.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with stakeholders and internal business partners to understand business requirements and translate them into analytical solutions. Solutions may range from Excel to dashboarding to AI/GPT models.
  • Design, build & maintain ETL processes & associated Stored Procedures, where applicable
  • Build and maintain user friendly and informative dashboards that provide actionable insights to stakeholders using relevant data visualization aids.
  • Support & maintain Key Performance metrics while producing actionable insights for improvements.
  • Apply Data Quality Assurance Techniques to verify accuracy and reliability of data and reports, identifying and resolving data quality issues.
  • Conducting Ad Hoc Analysis and Problem-Solving skills to solve complex data issues and support informed decision making.
  • Be enthusiastic, positive and competent in taking on ad-hoc technical tasks as required to support the team’s broader business objectives

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or hands-on data analysis proven experience required.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and translate complex concepts into practical solutions.
  • Proficient in working with a Relational Database Management System such as SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, and PostgreSQL
  • Proven experience in designing, developing, and optimizing SQL queries including ETL scripts and associated Stored Procedures using data tools such as Alteryx
  • Experience of documenting requirements and being the liaison between the technical and the business stakeholders of such requirements.
  • Proven experience using data visualization tools, primarily Power BI. Tableau or other similar visualization tools a bonus.
  • High proficiency in Excel for ad hoc data analysis & potential macro creation
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including provision of technical specification documentation, e.g., presenting a data model to the report team or building a data dictionary.
  • Enthusiasm, innovation and curiosity in tackling the myriad technical tasks that can arise within the team
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications such as Word, PowerPoint, Teams & OneNote

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Risk and Quality programs for UHC and Commercial Reporting in Optum
  • Experience working in an Agile Scrum team as a team member involved in Agile ceremonies
  • Experience working with AI and GPT technologies
  • Strong people skills, proven ability to work and present effectively with all levels of leadership, as well as business partners in other UHG entities
  • Experienced working in a large global and virtual corporate environment, in particular working closely with stakeholder teams in the USA
