Postdoctoral researcher positions in Economics, Statistics or related disciplines (m/f)

  • Ref: R-AGR-3696-10-C ALAC
  • Fixed-term contracts
  • Full-time (40 hours / week)
  • Foreseen starting date: September 1st 2020

The research group ‘Economic and Social Well-being’ of the Institute for Health and Behaviour, led by Prof. Conchita D’Ambrosio, is looking for two post-doctoral researchers to conduct cutting-edge multidisciplinary research on the individual life-course from a social-science perspective.

The research carried out in the first position takes an epigenetic approach to consider the effects of socio‐economic factors and life events on the ageing process, starting as early as conception. The analysis of aging here refers to the epigenetic clock, and will rely on repeated observations on the same individual (or the same parent-child dyad) in existing large-scale panel and birth-cohort data. Expertise in genetics, epigenetics and/or bio-statistics are required. This position is for 3 years.

The research in the second position will consider the potential for the application of rigorous non-linear machine-learning models to the predictive modelling of and understanding of data on individual and social wellbeing. Expertise in machine learning and a strong quantitative background is required. This position is for 2 years.

The post-doctoral researchers will be members of the Department of Behavioural and Cognitive Sciences, Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences, of the University of Luxembourg.

Your Role
  • Develop quantitative research on measuring individual and social well-being
  • Develop quantitative research on the analysis of the effects of socio-economic and demographic factors on an individual’s life-course
  • Disseminate results through scientific publications, workshops and conferences
  • Interact with the research-team members and colleagues, and participate in project meetings
  • Provide research assistance
  • Contribute to the preparation of research proposals
Your Profile
  • Ph.D. in Economics, Statistics, Biology or related disciplines
  • Experience in handling longitudinal and birth-cohort datasets
  • Extensive experience in quantitative research (Stata, R, Python, etc.)
  • Fluent in English (speaking and writing)
