The Department of Mathematical Sciences

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Department of Mathematical Sciences (DMS). The Department is a growing and vibrant department in the Faculty of Science and Health.

DMS is internationally known for its research in a range of areas, and offers an excellent education to its students. The Department is expanding due to increasing student numbers, and now wishes to make an appointment at the Professor level.

The postholder will provide strategic leadership in education; build a sustained and effective record of impact at strategic level in regards to learning and teaching, make a substantial contribution to the international profile of the University through the generation of internationally excellent research, scholarship and teaching; pursue research that is world leading in terms of originality, significance and rigour, in keeping with the REF criteria; and generate substantial research income commensurate with subject area norms.

Other duties will include supervising undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD students and carrying out administrative duties.

Qualifications and Skills required

Applicants should have a distinguished academic record, including internationally excellent research, appropriate markers of academic esteem and credibility, and/or professional recognition, and a relevant doctoral-level research degree or equivalent professional experience or practise. You should also have a Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy or the ability to gain this at an appropriate level within a defined period of appointment.

We particularly welcome applications from those who identify as female or non-binary as they are under-represented in the Department of Mathematical Sciences.

At the University of Essex internationalism is central to who we are and what we do. We are committed to being a cosmopolitan, internationally-oriented university that is welcoming to staff and students from all countries and a university where you can find the world in one place.
