Within the Chemical, Biological and Radiological Division our mission is to support MOD and Other Government Departments, ensuring intelligent decision-making is at the heart of UK government thinking. We work in partnership with the best suppliers from industry, academia and our international allies to deliver creative, cost effective S&T solutions that reduce the risk that CBR materials pose to the UK.

Within the Statistics, Software and Information Management team we design, develop and exploit state of the art statistics and decision support tools for MOD to assist with operational planning and provide Chemical and Biological hazard assessment advice.

Your Role

We will expect you to either lead and/or contribute to a dynamic range of projects, as part of a team of specialists delivering critical statistical, analytical and technical advice. You will develop and use novel statistical techniques and will undertake ground-breaking research and experimentation at the forefront of statistical science to support the defence and security of the UK. Quite simply, we believe this is work you cannot do anywhere else.

Your Skills

We are looking for people who can demonstrate:

  • Application of statistical techniques to real-world problems, with experience in one of Bayesian inference, mixed effects modelling, pattern recognition, experimental design, chemometrics or bioinformatics.
  • Experience of working as part of a team and independently.
  • A strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • A dedication to learning new skills and working within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Aptitude in problem solving and the ability to work analytically.
  • Experience of leading projects, setting objectives and reviewing the work of others – level 6 role.

It’s essential you have a relevant degree with substantial statistical content or experience undertaking statistical research with a science background, a PhD with substantial statistical content is preferable.

This is a Reserved position so only open to UK Nationals. Dual Nationals cannot be considered for this role.

This position will require a full UK Security Check.
